Did you know that 175,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year? And in the U.S., one in five will not survive. I want to change that, so I'm raising money to find cures.
I am giving up my birthday... I have been fortunate and blessed to have gone through my childhood cancer-free. As a child, I never had to think about or even hear the word cancer. I never even knew that children could get cancer! Today, the heart wrenching reality is that every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. This year, I’ve decided to join several of my co-workers in celebrating our birthdays by giving them up in order to raise money for kids with cancer. ~Marysol (Birthday: 9/18)
I’m giving up my birthday... in honor of my first cousin Marvin Radford, Jr. who passed away in March 9, 1985 from cancer. We did not have the research back then that we have today. Marvin and my brother were very close and the same age. We were a close knit family and my cousins were more like siblings. There is always the emptiness that I see in my cousin Vanessa’s face as she lost her brother. I want to give up my birthday for all of the kid’s fighting for cancer! It’s the right thing to do! ~Denise (Birthday: 9/5
I’m giving up my birthday... to commemorate another year of life! I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when I was 19 yrs. old and after months of chemo I was to start radiation, 5x a week for two months, ending with more rounds of chemo. This was to begin on my 20th birthday but the good doctors decided to let me postpone treatment. It was a small act that has stayed with me almost 20 years in remission. Since I will be entering the last year of my 30’s what better way than to donate my birthday. ~Cindy (9/25)
I'm giving up my birthday....While I have not personally been affected by pediatric cancer, I have unfortunately seen a lot of my loved ones suffer and pass away from various illnesses. As I carry my heavy heart, I try to live my life to the fullest every day to honor my passed loved ones. With that being said, I just cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to be a parent and hear the devastating words, “Your child has cancer.” I’m giving up my birthday this year so St. Baldrick’s can continue to fund the most promising pediatric cancer research to find cures and give survivors long, healthy lives. ~Ashley (9/12)
So in lieu of presents this year, we please ask that you support us with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Your contribution will be the best gift to help fund lifesaving research for infants, children, teens and young adults to celebrate many more birthdays to come!
Thanks from all of us here at SBF (Marissa, Denise, Ryan, Marysol, Ashley, Charles and Cindy)
