You want to help children with Cancer but would rather not shave your head? Can you ride a bike?Join us to have some fun, AND be a hero for kids with cancer! Come be a part of the 6th year of this unique St. Baldrick’s event working to Conquer Kids’ Cancer.
At St Baldrick's the traditional head-shaving events are symbolic of a child losing their hair in treatment. But a child with cancer also faces a very difficult journey...Their treatment “road map”, a journey we’ve come to symbolize with a vigorous bicycle ride that you can be part of!
In 2020 the first St Baldrick’s team pedaled the 70 miles from my home to Montauk Point, NY (known locally as "The End") to symbolize the difficult treatment journey. We've done it every year since and have extended the ride to 85 miles. Don't want to ride 85 miles? Not from New York? Doesn't matter! You can sign-up and ride any distance wherever you may be, map your own route, create your own team. Come on and Join Us!
Of course if you're local you are welcome to join this ride
So heres how it works; Anyone can sign-up, recruit friends, plan your own route, in your own home town, raise some money for the critical research funded by St Baldrick's, then go ride on your selected date between May 1st and June 3rd (World Bicycle Day). It's really that simple! Create a route within your abilities, ride with a club, a team, or solo, spread the word about your ride, then get friends and family to sponsor you with donations.
Here’s some more more helpful details: There is no registration fee! We instead respectfully ask that anyone registering contribute at least a $50.00 donation to St Baldrick's, then raise as much as you are able to. Try to pick a ride distance that is symbolic, like 25 miles to commemorate the 25th anniversary of St Baldrick's, or maybe a metric century (60 miles), or a full century (100 miles)……or maybe just 10! Ask people to donate based on miles ( $1.00/mile for example). Or find creative ways to engage donors upon hitting a milestone.
Also, Please ride safely, wear a helmet, obey traffic laws, stay hydrated, and take lots of pictures to upload to the event page. Oh, and you can keep your hair (if you wish).
