On March 19th I will shave my head as a sign of solidarity with kids who lose their hair to cancer treatment. I am asking for pledges on my hair, all of the money raised will benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
I have been associated with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation since 2004 when my fellow firefighters challenged each other to participate. That first year we raised a little more than $24,000.00. Last year our event broke $100,000 for the 3rd consecutive year. In all our North Plainfield Event has raised over $880,000.00 in 12 short years.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation grants money to support meaningful science seeking a cure for childhood cancers and improving the quality of life for kids who win the battle but endure debilitating side effects.
Nearly $.80 of every dollar raised goes to funding fellowships in pediatric oncology, clinical trials and research. St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events happen all over the world; raising enough money to make $100 million in childhood cancer research grants since 2005!
But there is still a lot of work to do, and some dedicated & talented scientific minds that need our help.
Please join me in supporting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation with a donation on my hair, no amount is too little. There are a few ways to donate;
• Online at https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/RobBeattie2016 (the most efficient and cost effective way for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to process donations; means more money to the cause!)
• Download and print the attached donation form and mail a check made payable to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation with my name on the memo line.
• By phone at 888-899-2253
Our event is open to the public and family friendly, so please consider coming to the North Plainfield Firehouse at 1pm on March 19th to witness our St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event. Of course, if you’d like to sacrifice your own hair as a sign of solidarity with the kids we are always recruiting Shavee’s!
