I'm shaving my head in honor of my cousin LILLIAN and my friend CLARKIE.
On May 19th, 2014 at age 6, my cousin Lillian was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) and was admitted to UCLA’s Mattel’s Children Hospital.
Lillian underwent surgery for a port-a-cath, had a spinal tap as well as, a bone marrow test. She was placed on chemotherapy and her road map for treatment was created by her medical team. I am proud to say Lillian's last chemo treatment was in September of this year.
In July 2013 my friend Clarkie was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that only affects 250 people a year. After struggling with leg pain throughout his spring lacrosse season, his family finally pushed for an MRI. It showed a mass in his upper right femur. Clarkie’s treatment involved 34 weeks of chemotherapy and surgery to remove the top half of his femur and replace it with a titanium prosthesis and donor bone.
I'm raising money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
