Hello Friends (:
As some of you may know, I have been trying to grow my hair out since about 5th grade (Nevermind, I don't think anyone knew that). I am at the point now where I realize how hard long hair is to keep up with it, and I often complain about the about of upkeep required. However, this ridiculous conflict was one that I chose to have when I grew out my hair. Some kiddos don't have that choice. There is a little one out there who wants to braid their hair, or gel it back, or curl it, or just have it. Unfortunately, when one undergoes cancer treatments they loose all those oppertunities that I have been taking for granted.
Having hair can be a source of confidence, a way to express yourself, or even just something to be occupied with. I am privileged to be able to grow this stuff myself. I can curl it, straighten it, cut it, braid it (or in my case, have my friends braid it), and everything in between. I want to give someone else the same opportunities that I have been fortunate to have.
This year I am shaving my head in honor of all those little girls who have been taught that "long hair is beautiful", for all those boys who wish they could try out the iconic "Bieber hair", for those going through treatment now, and for those who kicked cancer's butt.
This is for you (:
