Greetings!
On March 12th, I am shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and lose their hair during treatment, while raising funds to support childhood cancer research.
Cancer affects many children each year- from infants to teenagers. One in five children diagnosed with cancer do not survive. The research supported by St. Baldrick’s strives in increase the survival rate of children with cancer, and to help children in remission to thrive.
All of the children whose stories are told on St. Baldrick’s website are amazing, but I read one story of a girl named Iana that really hit home. She lives in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, which is where my Mom grew up. Iana was diagnosed at age 2, and spent a great deal of time at the Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. I visited there growing up too, as my little sister was in and out of there with complications of Crohn's disease. Now 5 years old, Iana is a sweet little girl who gets to swim and play more than be at the hospital. Nevertheless, her experience has impacted her and she shared her big heart when she visited children in the hospital with gifts on her fifth birthday.
With inspirational children like these, I feel like it is the least I can do to raise money and shave my head so more kids like Iana can enjoy their childhood and teenage years being healthy and having fun.
I am aiming to raise $5000 in donations. To donate:
