Why Am I Going Bald?
Over the past two years with tremendous support from so many, I was able to raise over $2,600 to support research focused on curing and fighting childhood cancer. I participated in this event and shaved my head (and face) in honor and solidarity with the brave children that are fighting cancer, including Noah who I have honored and was the reason I joined this cause. Noah was first diagnosed with cancer around the age of 6, it went into remission, but unfortunately it has returned.
One of the greatest moments of the 2010 event was when Emily came up to me at the event right before I shaved my head, and thanked me for supporting the research and for shaving my head. Admittedly, it was hard to say anything at that point through the lump in my throat, but I was able to squeeze out a simple your welcome and ‘thank you’ to her for being brave and for beating Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Given there is still so much more we have to do to eradicate this disease that steals the childhood of too many, I have decided that I again will participate in the Romeo St. Baldrick's event in which I will shave my head (and face) if I reach my goal of $1,000. This year, I am joined by other members of Team “Clintondale Dragons” to make a larger impact in honor of our district. Board Treasurer Mike Scott, IT Director Len Lewandowski, 2004 Graduate (and my brother) Ryan Liddy, and 2005 Graduate (and my ‘other brother’ and son of MS Teacher Val Zabel) Dennis Zabel.
This year’s event will be held on March 12th in Romeo (the actual venue is still be determined), and we will love to have you out there in support of the “Shaving of the Hero’s” and to enjoy the many other events that will be going on all day .
With our bald heads, We’ll stand in solidarity with kids being treated for cancer. But that’s not the main reason. Most important, we are doing this to raise money for life-saving research. No one, especially kids, should not know the pain of cancer, so if you can please help me and our team reach our goal we would greatly appreciate it. Donations big and small all add up and can make a huge difference in the lives of many.
