Obviously I'm not shaving my head. But look at this insane beard! I stopped shaving the day after last Halloween with the goal of having almost as much hair on my head as a "normal" shavee. Doesn't look like a million bucks? All I want to shave it off is $5,000. Seems like a fair trade for putting up with it for 4+ months. You might be thinking, "Wow! Ned is really committed to this, I wonder why?" Well, while most of you know my daughter's story, and know why I do this, here is some background for those of you that don't.
My daughter, Martha, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in August of 2015, at the age of 13. She has spent nearly 5 years battling "the beast" (as Ewing's is known) and essentially has kicked cancer's ass 3 times; after her initial treatment, and after 2 relapses. She is currently showing no evidence of disease (NED, I know right?) She is now a senior at Boulder High, 18 years old, and heading off to college next year, or maybe a "gap year", who knows, the sky is the limit for Martha. If you scroll down you will see Martha is my Honored Kid. Also, here is a quick shout-out to my daughter Annie (Martha's twin sister) who helps coordinate the St. Baldrick's event at BHS; way to go Annie!
So, help me raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation! You can peruse their website and inform yourself about the foundations aim, but here is the summary: They raise money to fund new research that aims to improve outcomes (cures/therapies) for kids fighting childhood cancers. Many of you have likely been touched by cancer in some way, some of you painfully close. I think everyone can agree, childhood cancer is especially painful road, for friends, family, but especially the kids. Please help St. Baldrick's ease that pain; donate to my fundraising goal and help Martha and other kids kick cancer's ass.
