As a pediatric oncologist for more than 25 years and the Children's Oncology Group (COG) Chair for the past 2.5 years, I have seen incredible advances in the treatment of childhood cancer. Yet, it is obvious that more progress is necessary. Too many children will die from cancer, and too often those who survive have life-threatening side effects from their therapy. Until we can cure all children with minimal or no toxicity, COG and St. Baldrick's Foundation have a shared mission.
In an era of limited federal funding for childhood cancer research, philanthropic support from St. Baldrick's Foundation is essential to bring life-saving advances to children with cancer today. St. Baldrick's Foundation has been and remains COG's largest supporter. That is why I will have my head shaved to support the mission of St. Baldrick's Foundation. Maybe you will donate because you want to see my bald head, or maybe you are moved to support the mission also. Either way, I hope you will help this important cause.
After more than two years of COVID-19 restrictions, I am pleased to contribute my hair to the cause to improve the outcomes for children with cancer, at an in-person COG meeting!
