Eric Bacyinski and Rachel Koelzer are participating in the St Baldrick’s event on May 18. I strongly support them.
“The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives.” “How does shaving my head help … ? Because kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, "shavees" for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation show their support by shaving their heads voluntarily, and inspiring friends and family to donate money to support childhood cancer research.”
New twist though …. Eric and Rachel asked me to join them. Yikes. Be a shavee? Double yikes. I asked my son, Mark, what he thought; he said that it would change the way I look. He was right. That’s what I had been thinking about. But Mark’s words gave me the courage to participate. Changing my looks wouldn’t change who I was. It doesn’t change who anyone is. At the heart of this I will have the chance to do a little something to conquer childhood cancer and help children and their family. (I hate cancer.)
“Some days, doing the best we can may still fall short of what we would like to be able to do, but life isn’t perfect—on any front—and doing what we can with what we have is the most we should expect of ourselves or anyone else.” Fred Rogers
My Ask: Help the cause. Donate to any participant. Attend the event. Join me, be a participant, … maybe, What do you think?
Full Disclosure: As a shavee, I’m allowed to keep ½’ – 1”
