I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

My 4-year-old Joaquin was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009. We were devastated by this news. His older brother was especially affected by Joaquin's illness. He exchanged his best friend and playmate for countless days in the hospital trying to distract Joaquin from his suffering. I've spent many long nights researching treatment options, research studies, and survival statistics. To quote Congressman Joe Sestakand Michael McCaul on National Cancer Institute funding: "For every six research dollars per patient with AIDS and every one research dollar per patient with breast cancer, a child with cancer receives only 30 cents. This is unacceptable. What is a mother to do? Stand idly by waiting for a cure to fall into my lap as my child fights for his life?! I have vowed to fight with all the children battling cancer that are braver than I could ever hope to be.
